Our water analysis techniques

Water analysis is done with a variety of techniques and methodologies, depending on the pollutant and the nature of the sample.

Spectrophotometry:

Automatic spectrophotometric analysis with discrete multiparametric analyser.

Inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy (ICP/MS):

Advanced technique that detects and quantifies trace elements and heavy metals in water by ionising the sample in a plasma and analysing it based on the mass/charge ratio of the ions.

UV-VIS spectrophotometry:

Measurement of the absorption of ultraviolet and visible light by a sample. It is used to quantify specific substances in water.

Gas chromatography:

Separation and analysis of volatile compounds in water by vaporising the sample and passing it through a chromatographic column.

Gas chromatography – mass spectrometry:

Analytical technique that combines the separation capability of gas chromatography with the sensitivity and selectivity of the mass detector.

IR spectroscopy:

Method that measures the absorption of infrared radiation by the sample to identify and quantify chemical compounds in water.

High performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS):

The sample is separated into its individual components using a chromatographic column. After HPLC separation, the analytes are introduced into the mass spectrometer to ionise and fragment them into charged ions. The mass-to-charge ratio of these ions allows the identification of the compounds present in the sample.

Ion chromatography:

Separation of inorganic contaminants according to their properties by electrical conductivity.

Selective electrode:

Quick and direct determination of ionic activity in aqueous solutions. When they identify an ion, they convert this data into a measurable value, almost like an encrypted code. This code reveals the concentration of the ion and makes it possible to determine whether the water is as clean and pure as it should be.

PCR:

Technique used for microbiological analysis.

Proportional counter:

Equipment used for alpha and beta radioactivity.

Liquid scintillation:

Technique used for tritium and radon analysis.

Atomic fluorescence:

Technique used for mercury analysis.

Atomic absorption:

Technique used for mercury analysis.

ICP-OES:

Atomic Emission Spectroscopy with Inductively Coupled Plasma.

TOC/Nt analyser:

Technique used for analysis of the total amount of organic carbon and total nitrogen.

Continuous flow:

Technique used for cyanide analysis.
